What we aim for
We build towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at Level AA. This is a records product and its whole value is being readable, so this is not a box we are ticking.
What is in place
- Semantic headings throughout, so a report can be navigated by structure.
- Every control reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus state.
- Text and background contrast tested against AA at every size we use.
- Touch targets sized for fingers rather than mice on touch devices.
- Motion reduced automatically when a device asks for it.
- Status changes announced politely to screen readers rather than silently.
- A PDF of every report, for readers who prefer their own tools.
Where we know we fall short
Reports are long and dense, and a screen reader user meets a great many numbers in sequence. The jump links at the top of a report help, but we do not consider this solved.
Charts convey shape visually. Every one is accompanied by the figures in text, so nothing is available only as a picture — but the shape itself is not described.
Tell us
If any part of this service is difficult to use, write to hello@scantheblock.com and tell us what happened and what you were using. We will fix it and reply to you. If you need a report in another format, ask and we will produce one.
